couple of jonny cola gigs supporting the new ‘postcode wars’ ep.. this thursday 7th july at the monarch, 40-42 chalk farm rd, camden NW1 8BG and then back at the same venue next wednesday 13th july supporting the indelicates. ep been getting some good reviews - “All The Young Dudes with the slick
rhythms of Blondie through an endearingly DIY filter.. You’ll be waving a
feather boa over your head and grinning like a muppet” Artrocker “‘Postcode Wars’ is delicious. Perfectly crafted POP! complete with falsetto “oo”s in thechorus, like every pop classic should have. And that chorus – “Let’s sort it all out in the bedroom” – is catchy as hell, infectious even. Highly recommended will be stuck in your head for days” God Is In The TV “The angular Mr Cola and his A-Grades return with new EP
which showcases their refreshing mix of “Oxfam glam” and astute social commentary, imagine if Suede had read
Marx (Groucho and Karl)” Von Pip Musical Express “There are hints of Pulp and flickers of Blur, both of
whom built on some great British pop traditions, however Jonny Cola & The
A-Grades have evolved it a bit further to really produce a sound of their
own” New Singles Review + here’s a link to the video |

matthew and band will be playing a special album launch gig on wednesday 24th march at adam street private members’ club, 9 adam st, the strand, london WC2H 6AA. onstage 8:30pm. admission free. some reviews for ‘new maps of hell’: 'Unique and totally mesmirising, this is an album which proves difficult to turn off’ Maverick ‘Taking obvious cues from Cat Stevens from
start to finish Matthew Neel has successfully set himself apart from the
crowd on this far-reaching debut album and has clearly worked hard to redeem
the title of the singer/songwriter’ Bearded
Magazine ‘snappy lyricism and black heart.. a competent and assured debut that promises much for the future’ Americana-UK ‘The guitar playing and vocals in particular are very powerful.. the cryptic nature of the lyrics resemble Elliot Smith and the overall playful nature of the 'gypsy folk' music resemble Camper Van Beethoven. All in all, this is a very interesting sound that works extremely well with Matthew's songwriting abilities’ MicControl.com ‘a sombre piece of art which is strangely alluring and mesmerising’ Awal.com |
